It Takes

a Vision

to Make

a Difference.

F.E.Systems is a group of software specialists building cutting-edge software products and experimenting with new, innovative technologies. A traumatic Apple II childhood requires us to crank out emulators now and then as a rather pragmatic kind of therapy.

Our main focus - backward compatibility - is a rather unpopular research subject. Considering the pace at which the computer industry is changing and consequently a substantial uncertainty of investments is introduced, it deserves more attention. F.E.Systems is providing individuals and organizations with tools that keep legacy equipment in good shape.

Dipl.-Ing. André Horstmann has studied physics and computer sciences at the University of Fribourg. As the project manager, Horstmann keeps a tight grip on F.E.Systems' products. He is currently employed at youngculture AG in Zurich as a senior software architect and technical consultant.

Lic.rer.pol. Henrik Gudat has studied economics and computer sciences at the University of Basel. He is currently employed at International Security Network (ETH Zurich) in Zurich as head of web services and knowledge management systems.

Both have specialized in low-level programming on various platforms. Most of F.E.Systems' products are time-critical applications that require careful design and hand-optimized assembly code. We also put emphasis on clean, uncluttered user interfaces that make our products accessible to novice users and pros alike.

F.E.Systems has suspended all operations because of our real jobs. :-(

Bright Software, the company that later became F.E.Systems, was established in 1989. We are a privately held, privately funded operation. Here's a short timeline of our company's history:

  • 1990 introduction of the first bilingual action adventure for the Apple IIgs. (ZD Editor's Choice Award 1992)
  • 1991 introduction of the first software decoder for vtx/btx online services for the Apple IIgs. Introduction of the most popular text viewer for Apple IIgs computers.
  • 1992 introduction of the first full-featured symbolic & numeric math package for the Apple IIgs.
  • 1995 introduction of OfficeTools, an integrated office automation solution for large corporations.
  • 1996 introduction of the first and still most advanced Apple IIgs emulation software for Power Macintosh.
  • 1997 introduction of the first Apple IIgs emulation software for BeOS®/PowerPC®.
  • 1999 publication of "efficacy and technical implementation of software emulators" (limited distribution)
